Wound infection is a significant problem in both acute surgical wounds, leading to surgical site infections (SSIs), and non-healing, chronic wounds. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is also a growing public health challenge worldwide identified as one of the top 10 threats to global health by the World Health Organisation in 2019.
